How do we manage difficult stakeholders?

Being a project manager is never an easy job. We're continuously dealing with a lot of stuff, and what's more, our work requires us dealing with a lot of people. Believe most project managers would agree that dealing with people is among all the most challenging work in this area.

To start with the topic today, we have to appreciate that a project is a change from an existing state to a future state, and it is indeed the fundamental reason to have a project at the very beginning. In most cases, we believe a change is required to enhance or improve something, maybe to automate or streamline some processes, or in some cases we're tired of dealing with a legacy platform that is no longer able to support the business in many area, and a change is required to replace it. Yet in many cases a change is also introducing big impact to the existing operation flow, requiring people to adopt new processes.
